Not quite. He didn't renounce his rights, he requested that parliamentary
approval not be sought. He will automatically lose his rights when he
marries without permission this April. But he's currently still in line, and
will be until the wedding.

This too is not true. Such a request has no value. The government decided for
him; despite the different wording in a press release.

Nov. 6 2003 ENGLAND. Prince Charles denies 'incident' claims
One really must object to your use of ENGLAND. It is Great Britain at
least - optimally it should say UNITED KINGDOM.

This is important to a part-time, soon to be full-time resident of Wales,
like me.

NETHERLANDS. Prince renounces throne
Johan Friso has renounced his right of succession, after the government refused to support his
forthcoming marriage

This should read the other way round to be constitutionally and factually correct:

Government of the Netherlands decides not to propose a bill to the joint houses of parliament to ask their consent for the
marriage of prince Johan Friso. By going ahead with the wedding Johan Friso will lose his right of succession the moment he
signs the marriagecontract.

That is: there was nothing for him to renounce, as the Constitution does not allow for such things.

What utter nonsense to call a non-event the event of the year! The event of the year is something that never happened? Come
on, get serious!

* engagement of prince Felipe

* engagement of prince Frederik

* birth of future heir to the throne in the Netherlands

* the killing of one of the Queens corgis

are all more serious 'events of the year'.
